
Veronica Mak is a Chinese-American soprano based in New York City, equally at home in operatic, choral, and contemporary repertoire. Her artistry is marked by versatility, emotional nuance, and a deep commitment to expressive storytelling.
She began her 2025/2026 season producing a recital series with pianist Shaobai Yuan called In Bloom and In Twilight. She also made her choral debut with Ghostlight Chorus last November for their program, Blessed. Veronica was recently featured in Amore Opera's production of The Magic Flute as Pamina, where she made her role and company debut. Later this season, she will return to Regina Opera for their productions of Suor Angelica as Suor Genovieffa and Carmen as Frasquita. Additional performances this season include Mozart Requiem with Ghostlight Chorus, Chorus Fellow with Spoleto Festival, and a joint recital with soprano, Melanie Spector, as part of Delaware Valley Opera's 40th Anniversary Season.
Ms. Mak's additional previous operatic roles include Laetitia from The Old Maid and the Thief, Monica from the Medium, Lauretta from Gianni Schicchi, Bastienne from Bastien und Bastienne, Pyg from Knightly News!, the title role of L’enfant et les sortilèges, and Nancy from Albert Herring. Veronica was recognized from her performance of Rigoletto as Gilda with Regina Opera, having "appeared to inhabit the character believably" (Opera Wire).

Ms. Mak has also sung various concert solo repertoire, including Mozart Requiem, Brahms’ Deutsches Requiem, Haydn's The Creation, and Schubert's Mass No. 2 in G. She was a featured singer for Fresh Squeezed Opera's annual showcases, presenting contemporary art songs submitted by local composers. Veronica was a previous finalist for the Burbank Philharmonic Competition, based in Burbank, CA and a semifinalist for the The Houston Saengerbund German Singing Competition. Ms. Mak has also participated in masterclasses with Mikael Eliasen, Warren Jones, Matthew Rose, Bryan Wagorn, Carlos Kalmar, Jonathan Beyer, Susan Platts, and Justin Moniz.
Outside of her solo engagements, Veronica thoroughly works with choral ensembles on the recurring basis. Ms. Mak was previously a participant of The Thirteen Vocal Fellows Program, based in Washington D.C., a vocal fellowship providing mentorship and prominent music-making environment. Ms. Mak is also an alumna of the Grant Park Music Festival Vocal Fellowship based in Chicago, IL, and continues to sing in the Grant Park Chorus as a supplemental singer. She is regular member of EnsembleNYC, conducted by Ronnie Oliver Jr., and Ghostlight Chorus, conducted by Evelyn DeGraf.
Ms. Mak received her Masters of Music & Bachelor of Music degrees from the Manhattan School of Music for Classical Voice/Opera, where she was the recipient of the Margaret Hoswell van Der Marck Scholarship in Opera.
