Equally passionate and fulfilled in various musical fields, Chinese-American Soprano Veronica Mak aims to reach out to audiences in multiple outlets. During her 2022/2023 season, Veronica made her company debut with Regina Opera (Brooklyn, NY) as Monica from The Medium. She was also invited to perform a series of concerts through Regina Opera Company, including duets and arias from Rigoletto, Le Nozze di Figaro, and Hansel und Gretel. After her Regina Opera debut, she was featured as a soloist in Fresh Squeezed Opera's Vocal Showcase: "I just want to have a good f*cking day!" Ms. Mak participated as the Soprano Soloist for New York Consortium's Big Sing event of Haydn's The Creation, an abridgment in English. Ms. Mak also founded an art song initiative in 2022 called The Modern Collective, amplifying new works of contemporary poetry through various styles of music. The initiative is currently on hiatus until further notice.
Ms. Mak previous operatic roles also include Gilda from Rigoletto, Lauretta from Gianni Schicchi, the title role of L’enfant et les sortilèges, and Nancy from Albert Herring. Throughout her studies at Manhattan School of Music, she has also studied scenes from Idomeneo as Ilia and Elettra, Street Scene as Rose Maurrant, L’incoronazione di Poppea as Damigella, Hansel und Gretel as Gretel, Die Zaubeflöte as Zweite Knabe and Papagena, Candide as Cunegonde, and Le Nozze di Figaro as Susanna. Ms. Mak has also sung various concert solo repertoire, including Mozart Requiem under the direction of Kent Tritle with the MSM Symphony Orchestra, as well as the Brahms’ Deutsches Requiem under the direction of Ronnie Oliver Jr. Outside of her solo engagements, she is a recurring ensemble member of EnsembleNYC, under the direction of Ronnie Oliver Jr. Mak was a participant in The Thirteen Diversity Initiative: Vocal Fellows Program in February 2024. She is also a regular Soprano ringer at St. Joseph's in Greenwich Village in New York City.
Her upcoming engagements include Bastienne in Garden State Opera's production of Bastien und Bastienne, and Soprano Soloist for Schubert's Mass No. 2 with Stamford Chorale, and Grant Park Music Festival's Vocal Fellow Program.
Ms. Mak received her Masters of Music & Bachelor of Music degrees from the Manhattan School of Music for Classical Voice/Opera under the tutelage of Joan Patenaude-Yarnell.
